A JILAF delegation visited the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka from April 16 (Saturday) to 20 (Wednesday) for the purpose of coordination toward the full-fledged start in fiscal 2016 of the SGRA project (Supporting Grass-Roots Activities through the International Employers’ and Workers’ Network), which JILAF is implementing with grants from the Japanese government (Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare). The delegation’s schedule included an unofficial meeting of the Central Working Group and consultations with local people involved in the project.
In the unofficial meeting of the Central Working Group held on April 17, the participants discussed preparations for a Life Support Seminar (LSS) scheduled to be held in May.
In the current fiscal year the plans in Dhaka are to organize 60 new informal-sector workers as network members, provide information through the LSS contributing to livelihood improvement, and also supply skill-development training in construction and sewing in conjunction with the International Labour Organization (ILO).
In addition, the JILAF delegation visited the Bangladeshi Ministry of Labour and Employment, Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF), and ILO Dhaka Office to discuss specific collaboration in the fiscal 2016 project.
