A team of nine persons (including four women) from the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU; four persons), the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU; four persons), and the Korea International Labour Foundation (KOILAF; one person) was invited to Japan from May 29 to June 11.
The participants showed much interest in such topics as Japan’s productivity improvement movement, social insurance system, tripartite deliberative council, the role and organization of industrial labour federations, and Japan’s response to the aging society. They also learned about the labour movement and other positive aspects of Japan, as well as the economic situation, and showed a keenness to utilize this knowledge in the solving of problems and development in their own countries.
In the Rengo Nagano program, the participants visited the Hello Work Nagano public employment security office and the Nagano Personal Support Center. At the Nagano Prefectural Government Office they paid a courtesy call on Nagano Prefecture Governor Shuichi Abe and engaged in discussions on the employment countermeasures of the administration and labour unions.
In the visit to an industrial labour organization and workplace, the participants visited the Japanese Federation of Energy and Chemistry Workers Unions (JEC Federation), where they heard an explanation of its efforts to strengthen the stabilization and securing of jobs, realize industrial policy and system demands, and improve general working conditions. After that, they visited the Tokyo Office of Nippon Paint Co., Ltd., where they held discussions on such topics as labour health and safety in the workplace and the role of labour unions in addressing environmental problems. The training program was a good opportunity for the participants to renew their awareness of Japan and to understand the current situation and issues in Japan.
