JILAF invited seven persons (including two women) from five organizations in four countries and one region in the Middle East and North Africa to visit Japan from January 23 to February 5.

JILAF invited seven persons (including two women) from five organizations in four countries and one region in the Middle East and North Africa to visit Japan from January 23 to February 5.
The participants engaged actively in the program and showed much interest in Japan’s labour situation and labour legislation. Furthermore, at the places visited they took part in various discussions, thereby learning a lot and deepening their understanding.
In the Rengo Yamaguchi program, they heard explanations of such topics as the expansion of unionization, support for unions in small and medium-sized companies, the realization of policies and systems, social activities in the community, and political activities. In visits to Hello Work Yamaguchi and the Yamaguchi Center of the Employment and Human Resources Development Organization of Japan, they showed interest in the employment insurance scheme, whether or not there was a subsidy system for new graduates, and conditions, periods, and qualifications for receiving vocational training. The participants also visited a plant of Panasonic Electronic Devices Japan Co., Ltd.
In the visit to an industrial organization and workplace, the participants went to the Chuo-ku Waste Treatment Plant in Tokyo, where they heard an explanation of the activities of the Tokyo Waste Treatment Labour Union’s Chuo-ku Plant Branch, which is affiliated to Jichiro (All Japan Prefectural and Municipal Workers’ Union). They showed particular interest in such topics as the impact on global warming of the carbon dioxide emitted during incineration and the basic labour rights of local public-sector employees.
