Industrial production continues to show upward movement
Industrial production in April increased
1.3% over the previous month, registering an increase for the
second consecutive month. It showed an increase of 25.9% year-on-year.
Industries that mainly contributed to the increase were general
machinery, fabricated metals, and other manufacturing, in that
order.
Commodities that mainly contributed to the increase were semiconductor
products machinery, large active matrix LCDs (liquid crystal
devices), and medium and small active matrix LCDs, in that order.
According to the Survey of Production Forecast in Manufacturing,
production is expected to increase 0.4% in May and 0.3% in June.
Family Income and Expenditure Survey
(1) Expenditure for two-or-more-person
households
The average monthly consumption expenditure per two-or-more-person
household in April was 299,996 yen, down 2.1% in nominal terms
and down 0.7% in real terms from the previous year.
(2) Income and expenditure for workers' households
The average monthly income per household stood at 474,616 yen,
up 0.2% in nominal terms and up 1.6% in real terms over the previous
year.
The average consumption expenditure was 331,621 yen, down 3.7%
in nominal terms and down 2.3% in real terms from the previous
year.
Labour Force Survey Monthly Results for April 2010
These survey results, released by the
Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on April 30, showed the
following:
(1) Employment
The number of employed persons in April was 62.69 million, a
decrease of 530,000, or 0.8%, from the previous year
(2) Unemployment
The number of unemployed persons in April was 3.56 million, an
increase of 100,000, or 2.9%, over the previous year. The seasonally
adjusted unemployment rate was 5.1%.
