  Objective
Promoting the development of free and democratic labor movements in developing countries and thereby facilitating their sound social and economic development

The Japan International Labour Foundation (JILAF) was founded by JTUC-RENGO (Japanese Trade Union Confederation) in May 1989 as an organization for promoting international exchange and cooperation in the field of labor. JILAF is an non-governmental organization (NGO) and also non-profit organization (NPO).
JILAF has steadily expanded its projects with the cooperation of RENGO and its affiliates, related ministries, agencies and organizations, the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and its regional organization, and others.
JILAF will continue its positive activities to promote the development of free and democratic labor movements in developing countries with the aim of facilitating their sound social and economic development.

  Activities

Invitation program JILAF invites trade union leaders from overseas to Japan and provides them with an opportunity for training. The number of persons invited reached 2,131 persons from 123 countries 3 regions and 6 international organizations(As of mach,2008).
Field projects JILAF provides support for educational and social development activities conducted locally by trade unions in developing countries. Since fiscal 1994, about 2,664 local seminars were organized in 15 countries and one region with the participation of about 81,272 people(As of mach,2008).
Human rexources development JILAF provides assistance to enable young trade union leaders in developing countries to receive training in other countries.
Seminars and symposioums In cooperation with related organizations, JILAF holds labor-related seminars and symposiums in Japan and other countries.
Research and publicity JILAF makes researches on the labor situation in other countries and publishes documents on labor issues.

  Structure of excutives

The Board of Directors and the Board of Councilors are both composed of representatives of RENGO's affiliates in half. Another half consists of scholars, men of culture, journalists, and other professionals.
