What is JILAF?
Aiming to promote the development of a free and democratic labour movement and sound social and economic development in developing countries
The Japan International Labour Foundation (JILAF) was established by RENGO (Japanese Trade Union Confederation) in May 1989 as an organization to promote international exchange and cooperation in the field of labour. During the 20 years since its establishment, JILAF has developed projects in cooperation with RENGO, affiliated members of RENGO, Local RENGOs, and the related government ministries and agencies, as well as the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), It's regional organizations, national centers, of each country and others.
From now on also, JILAF will continue its activities with the aim of promoting the development of free democratic and independent trade unions and sound social and economic development in developing countries.
The Japan International Labour Foundation (JILAF) was established by RENGO (Japanese Trade Union Confederation) in 1989 as an organization to promote international exchange and cooperation in the field of labour with the aim of contributing to the development of free and democratic labour movements and sound social and economic development in developing countries.
JILAF's main activities are the Invitation Program, by which junior trade union leaders are invited to Japan mainly from developing countries; Field Projects, including local seminars held as necessary in accordance with needs in the countries concerned gauged by JILAF and livelihood support for people working in the informal sector; Public Relations; and Human Resource Development.
These projects are implemented either on consignment from thegovernment, such as through the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare'sinternationallabour-relatedprojects
and employment andlabour assistance projects in Asian developing countries and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects scheme,
or through donations from labour-related organizations, such as RENGO.
I believe that our international cooperation and social development projects in the labour field contribute to the building of sound labour-management relations, industrial development, and employment stability in developing countries and also play a role as a pillar of Japanese diplomacy by, for example, grooming many Japanophile leaders.
From now on also, JILAF will continue to develop projects to help build an international framework toward realizing the dignity of labour and a just and fair society.

Structure of Executives
The Board of Directors and the Board of Councilors are both composed of representatives of RENGO's affiliates in half. Another half consists of scholars, men of culture, journalists, and other professionals.
